Kerala govt. to launch video-conferencing facility for jails

Kerala will introduce video-conferencing facility in jails, linking them with courts in the same districts from June 12.

The inauguration of the facility would be held at Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail on June 12, State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said while inaugurating the Surveillance System at the Kannur Central Jail here.

He said the project would enable reduction of work load for about 2,000 police personnel.

He also said four new jails would be opened soon to avoid overcrowding of inmates.

The government was planning to draft a special project for jail inmates’ children for better education.
